Liberty Street Rods 18th Annual Rod Run

Streetscene Article

The Liberty Street Rods hosted their 18th Annual Rod Run on Sunday, June 24, 2007. The event was held at the Winfield Fire Company Carnival Grounds in Carroll County, Winfield, Maryland on a warm summer day with an excellent showing of street rods, classics, customs, and antiques.

This year’s event was very successful with 315 registered vehicles. We like to think of ourselves as “the club that gives back the most” to the participants. Therefore, the first 250 cars received club sponsored goodie bags with an assortment of items. Registered entrants were also entitled to a pancake breakfast and fried chicken luncheon that were prepared and served by the Winfield Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary in their newly renovated air-conditioned hall. NSRA Maryland Safety Inspector, Donald Fuss, manned the NSRA Safety Inspection booth and provided free NSRA Safety Inspections for any of the Street Rodders present at the show. Other events included flea market vendors, entertainment, over 75 door prizes, 50-50 raffle, and games for the entire family. The Liberty Ladies contributed to the day’s festivities with a Chinese Auction, Kid’s Games, Flea Market and drawings for spectacular theme baskets including “Summer Fun/Kids”, “Car Care”, “Ladies Day”, “Gourmet”, and the “Fourth of July”. At the awards ceremony, the Club presented 43 plaques sponsored by local businesses.

On July 5, 2007, the Liberty Street Rods celebrated their 20th anniversary as an organized car club. Three of the original four members, Frank Donato, “Twig” Ludwig, and Carmen Trimboli are still active members of the club. The car club members would like to thank Frank, Twig, and Carmen for all that they have done to keep up the traditions of the club and for their continuous support to the club and the community.

Each year the club donates the proceeds to various organizations and individuals within the community. This year, charitable contributions were provided to the Winfield Fire Department in recognition of their dedicated service to the community and for two scholarship funds for deserving individuals in attendance at the local Carroll County Vocational Technical Center. Additional contributions were provided to benefit the Shepherd’s Staff, a local outreach and support center serving the needy in Carroll County, Maryland. The Annual Rod Run is one way the Liberty Street Rods Club shows its commitment to the community.

The Liberty Street Rods Annual Rod Run proves to be an entertaining event for the entire family. The Club members look forward to meeting the car enthusiasts and their families who attend the show. The Club Officers would like to take this opportunity to thank the Winfield Fire Department for providing the site, the Club members and Liberty Street Rod Ladies for all their hard work and dedication, and especially to the car enthusiasts and spectators who participate and make our event a success.

The Liberty Street Rods 19th Annual Rod Run will be held on June 22, 2008 beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the awards presentation starting at 3:00 p.m. The show is open to all 1973 or older street rods, customs, and antiques. The club feels it gives the most back to the participants of any show in the area. The participants will receive a pancake breakfast and a fried chicken lunch; door prizes; game winner prizes; Top 40 awards; a special Truck award; a Best Engine award, and music all day. Spectators are also welcome for a $2.00 fee. There will be plenty of food available on the grounds. Please plan to attend this year’s fun-filled event.
